This podcast is about music for the music fan. I'm a 90's kid, so I tend to talk about 90's music, but all genres, eras, artists and opinions are on the table. I do this because I have a deep passion for music.
See these dudes, they are a new face for Rock music. Two dudes from England who lay down some heavy riffs. I discovered these guys while surveying the active rock charts for good new music. They are towing the line for a great genre of rock. It feels grungy, garage-y, bluesy, heavy and concise. I'm glad I could find a brand new band that is making Rock music that is complimentary to the legacy of the genre. If you want some good examples listen to Ten Tonne Skeleton and Little Monster.
One of the greatest dudes ever in Rock is Tom Petty. He reminds me of 12th grade with the windows down in my '81 Honda Civic blasting Runnin' Down A Dream like I had a clue what I was doing. Petty is a master. He's the dude.
Give me your best attempt at telling me that DMX isn't the baddest dude ever in hiphop. He for real scares me and that's what I like about him. He seems like a crazy dude in real life and it comes across in his music. His debut will always be a classic in my mind. I'd buy It's Dark & Hell Is Hot if I were you.
This is System of a Down without Serj. Damian and the boys kill it on Scars On Broadway. Probably my favorite rock album of the past 15 years. Explosive, defiant, true and epic. Listen to 'Chemicals' and 'Enemy'.
Dave Navarro was an awesome temporary part of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. This was in '95 during the sessions for the lost RHCP album 'One Hot Minute'. I call it "lost" because the band was in turmoil, Kiedis was on the junk, Frusciante split (the 1st time), Flea was having marital problem and Navarro seemed like a temp. In fact the band hasn't played a track from this album live in years (proof). Despite all of that, this album is still awesome and one of my favorites. Navarro brought the sexy, heavy riffs, harder rock and psychedelia into the music. Check out Tearjerker and Walkabout
If someone would ask me to suggest one band to listen to, I would have to suggest Cake. Yup, Cake. The dudes who made that "Short Skirt" song. The dudes who's band name is a scrumptious dessert. The band who doesn't seem to take themselves or their persona all that seriously. These guys have been one of my favorite bands since Fashion Nugget came out in '96. They have released quality music since they've hit the scene (Pressure Chief as the exception) and have never changed their style. Listen to Motorcade of Generosity and then listen to Showroom of Compassion. That spans 1994 to 2011 and these guys never lost a step. May I just suggest listening to "Long Time". Sit back and enjoy.
Seriously, look at that intensity. It's like intensity in ten cities. Trent Reznor is some sort of dark rock god. Seemingly a very nice guy in real life, but you know there's darkness lurking in the mans head. My personal favorite NIN album is With Teeth, although it's hard to pick a favorite. And if you haven't checked out 'How to Destroy Angels' I suggest you do it pronto.
